ChatGPT Launches Daily Personalised Update Feature

OpenAI is introducing a feature called ChatGPT Pulse, aimed at deepening user engagement by delivering personalised content. Initially available to premium subscribers, this tool sends up to ten concise and visual information cards each day, based on user preferences and previous interactions.

As ChatGPT continues to evolve beyond its role as a conversational AI, it is shifting toward becoming a proactive assistant that users can integrate into their daily routines. The Pulse feature uses conversation history and data from connected apps such as Gmail and Google Calendar to refine which updates are displayed. For instance, someone who frequently discusses space and parenting might receive NASA updates along with Halloween tips for toddlers.

Each card includes a direct link to a deeper conversation with ChatGPT, allowing users to explore breaking news or specific topics without manual searching. These quick and engaging summaries function like a newsfeed and are curated by AI, positioning OpenAI as a competitor to traditional aggregators such as Google or Apple News.

OpenAI believes this move into personalised news could have a significant impact on the economy. With broader AI integration, it estimates Australia’s productivity could increase by up to $115 billion each year. Still, the tool must strike a balance between delivering useful updates and maintaining user attention, aiming to keep users informed without overwhelming them.

At present, ChatGPT Pulse is available exclusively on the US$200-per-month Pro subscription. OpenAI has plans to expand access later in the year. If widely adopted, the feature could become a default gateway for daily updates, including both news and personal reminders.
