Engineering subsidiary Kerman Construction will design and build a new heavy mine equipment workshop for Rio Tinto’s Brockman Syncline 1 iron ore project in Western Australia. The scope also covers mine equipment washdown facilities, tyre change infrastructure and fuel storage and refining assets at the BS1 site.
Work begins this year, with project completion targeted for 2028. The deal deepens a relationship that already includes a multidisciplinary construction contract at the same project.
Kerman’s new mandate at BS1 adds to its existing portfolio of work for Rio Tinto, including an ongoing contract at the Hope Downs 2 operations. The workshop and supporting facilities are critical to keeping Rio Tinto’s heavy mining fleet operating efficiently across the Pilbara region.
By bundling design and construction under one contractor, Rio Tinto aims to streamline project delivery and reduce interface risk. Monadelphous gains the visibility of a multi-year pipeline and the opportunity to deploy specialist construction capabilities at scale.
