Commonwealth Bank is using Atlassian's Strategy Collection suite to coordinate teams and leaders on its AI program delivery goals, as it targets $400 million in AI benefits in the current financial year. The bank recorded approximately $200 million in AI benefits in its most recently completed financial year.
Helen Lau, CBA's engineering platform general manager, discussed the bank's use of Strategy Collection at Atlassian's Teams 26 Europe conference. Strategy Collection combines three products, Focus, Talent and Jira Align, and is powered by the Atlassian Teamwork Graph. The tool is designed to link strategic intent, investment allocation and real-world outcomes, particularly as AI accelerates execution, Atlassian said.
CBA's first attempt to deploy Strategy Collection began in September last year as a proof-of-concept across two internal departments. That trial was ended after eight weeks of a planned 12-week period. Lau said the reason for halting it was that neither CBA nor Atlassian was ready to roll the tool out across the whole organisation.
A second implementation attempt started in March and was completed within six weeks. During that rollout, more than 9,000 goals were migrated into Strategy Collection, and the top 20% of the organisation up to C-level were trained on the tool.
AI agents are now responsible for almost half of CBA's Atlassian interactions, the bank said. Lau said AI is becoming embedded throughout CBA's business, covering customer experience, fraud and scam detection and prevention, financial crime, cyber, and internal productivity.
She described CBA's top-level ambition as becoming a world leader in AI banking, and said Strategy Collection underpins a shared vision toward that goal by making visible how the goal flows down to team actions and how those actions roll back up. CBA and Atlassian have a working relationship spanning close to two decades.
For large organisations using Atlassian products, Strategy Collection offers a mechanism to link executive-level goals directly to team-level work and AI agent activity, with the stated aim of tracking whether AI investment is generating measurable business returns.
