Lush has confirmed it will not renew any of its ten Westfield leases across Australia, with the exits to occur as each lease expires, SmartCompany reported. The departures are expected to unfold over the coming three years.
The British-born cosmetics brand, known for bath bombs and handmade soaps, first opened in Australia in 1997 at Sydney's Strand Arcade. It expanded into major shopping centres and capital cities through the late 1990s and early 2000s, becoming one of its fastest-growing early international markets.
A Lush spokesperson said the business intends to grow its national presence by focusing on communities and selecting stores of the right size and type in the right places. The same spokesperson said Lush performs best when its stores reflect not only local skincare needs but also the values and aspirations of the surrounding community.
Lush's October 2025 protest saw its Australian stores, Sydney manufacturing facility and website all shut for one day over Gaza humanitarian conditions. Following that protest, several Westfield centres covered up Lush shopfront signage.
The retailer is expected to look at standalone stores and other retail partnerships outside the Westfield network, though this is a projection rather than a confirmed plan. SmartCompany reached out to Lush and to Scentre Group, which operates Westfield, seeking responses.
Shoppers who currently visit Lush at Westfield centres will need to find alternative locations as those stores close progressively.
