A new survey from Corporate Traveller, which focuses on small and medium enterprise travel, shows location ranks as the top factor when choosing work trip accommodation. Complimentary breakfast comes a close second, edging out luxury touches in favour of value and convenience.
More than half of respondents also prioritise free cancellations up to 24 hours before arrival and 50% say reliable Wi‑Fi is essential for their stay.
Corporate Traveller reports that business travel demand stays strong in Australia and overseas, even as companies scrutinise budgets more closely. Work trips are viewed as critical to growth and survival, not an optional expense, so bookings continue but with sharper cost-benefit thinking.
Travellers are encouraged to select properties that support productivity, rather than simply chasing star ratings or prestige locations.
The data shows a shift in what success looks like for a business trip, with travellers optimising for outcomes instead of aspirational experiences. A hotel near meetings, offering a functional workspace, strong internet and an included breakfast, now often wins over a five‑star property further away.
Corporate Traveller says this reflects a broader corporate focus on measurable returns from travel, aligning hotel choices with tangible business results.
