A person at Canva says the design company will tell staff about redundancies on Wednesday morning and is planning a cut of about 20%.

The person told The Aussie Corporate this week that Canva would "send redundancy comms" on Wednesday morning and was "Planning to cut ~20%". They did not say whether the 20% covers Canva's whole workforce or its Australian staff, or how many people it would affect. Canva has not announced any job cuts, and its newsroom had nothing on redundancies on Tuesday evening.

What has been reported

Two Canva employees told Capital Brief that rumours were circulating inside the company about another round of redundancies in November or a possible hiring freeze, the outlet reported on Tuesday. It said staff were bracing for a wider restructure that "could involve layoffs or a hiring freeze". "The company declined to comment on the speculation," Capital Brief reported.

Capital Brief also reported that Canva cut 32 jobs in its finance division in January, after changes to its finance operations, and offered the people affected redundancy packages, other jobs inside the company and career support.

Earlier cuts

In March this year Capital Brief reported that Canva had confirmed it had no plans to lay off staff, after an internal post raised fears of job cuts.

In March 2025 ten of Canva's 12 technical writers were made redundant, Information Age reported, citing the Australian Financial Review. Canva said at the time "we are evolving our technical content writing function".
