Chemist Warehouse is stepping into the United Kingdom by securing a major stake in London-based Greenlight Healthcare’s 22-store network. Sigma Healthcare, which reverse-listed Chemist Warehouse last year, is leading the move as part of its broader growth strategy.

Under the deal, Greenlight Healthcare keeps running dispensary operations, professional services and back-office support while licensing the Chemist Warehouse brand across its stores. The global rollout already includes outlets in New Zealand, Ireland and Dubai under different Sigma banners.

Sigma Healthcare’s leadership has been signalling this kind of international play since the merger, pointing to the brand’s potential beyond Australia. Executives have suggested Chemist Warehouse could end up with a larger international footprint than its domestic store base over time.

The combined Sigma and Chemist Warehouse business formed a $34 billion retail and wholesale powerhouse last year, bringing together almost 1000 outlets across Chemist Warehouse, Amcal and Discount Drug Stores. That scale gives the group the buying power and logistics backbone to support a significant overseas push.

Industry watchers view the Greenlight Healthcare arrangement as a low-friction way for Chemist Warehouse to test the UK market without building from scratch. Greenlight already runs established locations and provides dispensary services, so the Australian group can focus on brand, pricing and range.

The model mirrors how multi-banner pharmacy groups often expand, using licensing and local partners to navigate regulations and consumer habits. If the London network performs strongly, the partnership could act as a launch pad for a broader British rollout using the same structure.
